What qualifications do you need to enter Churchill`s sixth form?

In the main, entry depends on the attitudes and aspirations of prospective sixth formers. All students should be able to demonstrate willingness to progress and a desire to do well. You must show commitment to making the best use of opportunities available and an ability to succeed with the courses you choose. Exact details of subject requirements for individual courses are detailed on the full curriculum guidelines for that course. Curriculum guidelines will be available at the sixth form subject convention in January. In general students wishing to study an advanced level course will need minimum of 5 GCSE passes at grade c or above. Students wishing to study AVCE will need a minimum of 4 GCES at grade c or above. Some individual subjects will require specific entry requirements and these are outlined in the curriculum guidelines. It is normal at Churchill that students study an advanced level programme. You will begin year 12 by studying 4 As levels plus general studies and reduce this to 3AS levels and general studies in year 13. Some students will study 3 AS levels plus general studies in yr 12 but individual requirements of all students are discussed at an interview.

The Head, the Director of Sixth Form Studies or a Senior member of staff interviews each applicant for entry if possible with their parents.an outright offer or a conditional offer is made as a result of the interview.

Every year we warmly welcome into Churchill`s sixth form students from other state and private schools, including those parents who have recently moved into the area. Anyone who is considering coming to Churchill should contact the Director of Sixth From Studies so that an appointment can be made. Opportunities are given so that both prospective students and their parents can visit the school and interviews are arranged in the same way as for Churchill applicants.
