UNIT1 HOMEWORK: (for 2-3 weeks from Mon 8th Sep)
1.              A4 size hall of shame (using supplied photo frames if needed). (2-3 weeks)
Students should consider what is the worst invention, (approx 1 week) and then set about presenting their photo frame with an art gallery style caption. (approx 2 weeks)
 
UNIT2 HOMEWORK: (for 3 weeks from Mon 15th Dec)
1.    Practice your isometric 3D sketching skills by drawing one object from your home every week for the next 3 weeks.  Each of your 3 drawings should take up at least half of an A4 sheet and use colour, rendering and annotation.  Isometric grid paper can be used if you like.
 
UNIT3 HOMEWORK: (for 3 weeks from Mon 20th Apr)
1.       Up to 1 hour - 3D modelling exercise – Students are to create a simple 3D model of a design done in class.  It can be made from a material of their choosing and should take no more than 1 hour to build.
2.       Up to 45 minutes - Planning manufacturing – Now that students have made their 3D development model they should plan how to make their design for real using processes and equipment that they have learnt about in D&T since year 7 (and any other methods if they know of them).  The student should choose one of these methods for creating their STEP-BY-STEP plan of the making:
a.        Bullet point list
b.       Flow diagram
c.        Gantt chart
d.       Cartoon strip
For each stage of the making it’s important that the student provides info about which materials and tools are being used as well as pointers on how to work safely with them.  If a student can successfully estimate how long each stage would take they will receive bonus marks.

TEXTILES HOMEWORK: (Completed over 10 weeks)
1.              Research Text (graffiti, calligraphy, etc) Create a full sheet of images from different sources, taking care with presentation
2.              Ask 10 people from the target group your questionnaire questions. Record the results (tables/ graphs) and write a conclusion which summaries the results on the separate sheet provided.
3.              Create a repeat pattern of your name in a text design using the worksheet as guidance. Graph paper will be provided to help do the design onto.
4.              Research Appliqué origins and uses. Include images and ensure that findings are written into your own words. This should be a research project that goes over 2 weeks.
 
RES MAT HOMEWORK: (Done over 10 weeks)
1.              Students will be issued with printed Private Study Sheets and should complete these by following the instructions bordered at the top of each sheet. They should complete two per fortnight, using  both sides of a single sheet of A4 paper,  and hand this in to their teacher at two-week intervals, returning the printed sheets in good condition for re-use.
Topics will include; Metals, Timber, Timber Conversion and Seasoning, Plastics, Manufactured Boards, Measuring and Marking Out, Cutting away materials, Forming Materials, Cutting and Shaping Tools, Tools for Drilling and Cutting Holes
 
ELECTRONICS HOMEWORK: (Done over 10 weeks)
1.       Fun Electronic Products -  Prepare a report that explains an electronic product that you think is fun to use.  Your report must do the following
a.        Explain the function of the product (what does it do? How does it work?)
b.       Describe the form of the product (what does it look like? Shape? Colour? Finish?)
c.        Explain how one part of the product could have been made (what materials and processes were used?)
d.       Explain good points about the product (what makes it fun? Comfortable? Durable?)
e.       Explain bad points and what you would do to improve those bad points.
Your report could be a movie, presentation, poster, booklet, leaflet, magazine article or review or even a 3D model with information attached.  This is a very open task in that the result is up to the student.  The outcome should represent approximately 4 hours work.  For more info feel free to email Mr Turner at BT@churchill.n-somerset.sch.uk.
 
GRAPHICS HOMEWORK: (Done over 10 weeks)
1.              Students to research and source photo`s from home (having asked permission to do so) and scan and attach to their school email accounts or bring into school for scanning.
2.              Students to complete photo frame ideas, colour and present
3.              Students to research and present their best findings of computer manipulated images found on computer/magazines/newspapers etc
Extension work - Students encouraged to practice adobe photoshop skills from home (if ICT facilities allow) or during time spent in the school LRC
4.              Students to research surf/beach designs/ wear/ logo`s/ lifestyles and present as a mood board as starting point for Surf board clock project. Students to use Polyvore.com and Shutterstock.com.
