ICT

Introduction

The ICT Faculty at Churchill Community School is a growing department, in which pupils study the Diploma in Digital Applications (DiDA) in KS3 & KS4, learning the required skills in Year 7 & 8, which enables them to begin their first GCSE unit in Year 9. Due to the ever-growing importance of ICT, it is a compulsory core GCSE subject, with pupils opting to study it either as a full course option (five lessons per fortnight) or a short course option (two lessons per fortnight) in Year 10 & 11.

As a suite of qualifications, DiDA offers progression from the Award (AiDA), which is equivalent to one GCSE, to the Certificate (CiDA), equivalent to two GCSEs and on to the full Diploma (DiDA), equivalent to four GCSEs. The units are designed to stimulate students’ creativity and develop real-world, practical skills that will motivate learning across a wide range of subjects.

Faculty & Resources

Churchill has a wide range of ICT facilities, including ten computer suites, a learning resource centre and laptops embedded in other departments. Some departments (such as Performing Arts / Music / Media) also have computer suites or areas. All our main systems are under 3 years old and run using Windows XP Professional. Sixth Form students also have their own additional resources.

Some of our computer facilities are shown below:
